Charlottesville, VA — July 23, 2025

On June 20, Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA) officially closed on Building A, marking a major milestone in the next phase of redevelopment at 6th Street. Urban Core Construction has since taken the lead on active construction.

Leading up to the closing, early site preparations were underway—including trenching near existing buildings to install new water connections. Demolition of the 707 building began on June 30, and after some brief mechanical delays, the structure was brought down in just a few hours on July 2.

This progress clears the path for the construction of 47 new homes designed with generous indoor and outdoor community spaces, as well as a neighborhood medical clinic. If construction stays on schedule, CRHA anticipates project completion by early 2027 or sooner.

Throughout the summer, residents will continue to play an active role in finalizing design decisions, monitoring construction progress, and preparing for a potential second phase application for 2027 Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC).
