Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA) will open its Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waiting list for new applicants on April 3, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., and will accept applications through April 7, 2023, at 4:00 p.m., at which time the waiting list for the HCV program will be closed. Applications is only accepted online at portal.cvillerha.com. You must register a portal account using a personal email address.
CRHA has established a preference system for applicants. The preference is given for residency only (living or working in the City of Charlottesville or Albemarle County), Applicants must certify their eligibility for residency preference, and intentional falsification will result in removal from the waiting list.
The waiting list order will be sorted by preferences and then by date and time of application. Applicants are encouraged to apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Assistance Program. Completed applications will only be accepted online. No paper pre-applications will be available or accepted.
CRHA will review applications and notify applicants regarding their initial eligibility for the waiting list. CRHA will provide reasonable accommodation, upon request, to offer assurances that persons with disabilities may fully access and utilize the housing program and related services.
Residents of CRHA’s public housing must submit a separate application for Housing Choice Voucher Program. An applicant family may be a single person or a group of people. A family may also include a live-in aide. CRHA will reserve a minimum of 75% of its new admissions for families whose income does not exceed 30 percent of the area median income.
The HCV program is a rental assistance program that assists extremely low-income and very low-income families with their rent in the private market. Applicants for the waitlist noted may qualify at 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI).
