Housing Programs

CRHA receives funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and other sources to own, manage, and operate seven public housing communities with 376 public housing units in the City of Charlottesville. CRHA’s public housing program is committed to excellence in providing decent and safe rental housing for all eligible low-income families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Eligibility for public housing is determined by household income, citizenship status, unit availability, and familial status.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is a federally funded program that provides rental assistance to low-income families through rent subsidies. The Department of Housing and Urban Development provides CRHA with a limited number of vouchers to distribute among eligible applicants. Eligibility of the program is determined by household income, voucher availability, and family size.

The Charlottesville Supplemental Rental Assistance Program (CSRAP) is a transitional, monthly housing assistance program administered by CRHA and funded by the City of Charlottesville. CSRAP is different from the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (previously known as Section 8) though it is run with similar standards. Eligibility for the program is determined by individual housing needs based on CRHA’s occupancy standards and household income.
