FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Charlottesville,Va.- Venable Elementary School will be renamed Trailblazer Elementary in honor of the Charlottesville Twelve, the black students who first desegregated Venable and Lane High School on September 8,1959 (before Ruby Bridges in 1960).
The name Trailblazer also honors the Charlottesville Twelve parents and other early desegregating trailblazers in Charlottesville.
The naming event will be on Monday, September 9,2024 at 10am at Trailblazer Elementary (Formerly Venable) at 406 14th St.
